LoewenThor has been mentioned in the Gondelsheim Chronicles since 1701 as a known inn. In 1748 it was rebuilt in barock style and considered prestigious for its time. It lay on an old trade route and was frequented by prince-bishops, officers of the court and traders.

After the first days of travel from Speyer and Augsburg, this was the first resting place.

Around 1900 it fell into a deep sleep reminiscent of Sleeping Beauty, out of which it first awoke in 1990.

I liked it the first time I went there. It was really amazing to feel the atmosphere from few centuries ago; the old wood stairs are creaking, the stone walls are cold and make the corridors appear even tighter than they are, thick rugs are thrown on the floor and antic attributes hang everywhere on the walls. You think that you will see the musketeers sitting on the tables and teasing the waitresses. It is an interesting feeling though!

The food is tasty and good prepared but it is the beer that makes this place famous. There are flavors for every taste starting with the low alcohol fruit ones and ending with the strong brown ones.

For ladies and drivers I will recommend the Kriek Superieure with cherry flavor and Frambose Superieure with raspberr"
